Učence seznaniti z osnovami:
- funkcije mikrobov v biofilmih
- katere so biološke, fizikalne in kemične komponente pri nastanku in razvoju biofilma
- razumevanje elektrostatičnih interakcij med celicami
- razumevanje procesov pritrjevanja celic
- razumevanje odzivov celic na različnih površinah
- razumevanje standardizacije karakterizacije biofilmov
- razumevanje difuzijskih pojavov hranil in toksičnih snovi na celično aktivnost
- pridobiti praktična znanja iz izbranih primerov za nadzor biofilmov

Kompetence:
- pridobitev specifičnih znanj o metodah za inženiring biofilmov s pomočjo
elektrostatike
- spoznati specifične metode za karakterizacijo biofilmov
- pridobiti osnovna znanja o oblikovanju delovanja biofilma in prostorske
porazdelitve celic
- pridobivanje znanja o uporabi naprednih mikroskopskih tehnik

To introduce students to the basics of:
- functioning microbes in biofilms
- what are biological, physical and chemical components for the establishment and development of the biofilm
- understanding electrostatic interactions between cells
- understanding processes of attachments of cells
- understanding responses of cells on different surfaces
- understanding the standardisation of the characterisation of biofilms
- understanding diffusion phenomena of nutrients and toxicants on the cell activity
- obtaining practical knowledge from the selected cases of biofilm control

Competencies:
- acquiring specific knowledge on the methods for biofilm engineering through electrostatics
- get knowledge of specific methods for characterisation of biofilms
- obtain basic knowledge for modelling biofilm function and spatial distribution of cells
- acquiring knowledge on advanced microscopy based techniques

Intendeded learning outcomes:

Študent bo z uspešno zaključenim predmetom pridobil osnovno znanje na naslednjih področjih:
- znanja za povečanje učinkovitosti bioprocesnih tehnologij
- znanje za nadzor in obdelavo odpadnih voda
- znanja s področja biokorozijskih procesov
- sposobnost implementacije znanja s področja preskušanja materialov in njihove standardizacije
- integracija teh veščin pri reševanju problemov v kontekstu lastne doktorske disertacije.

The student with the successful completion of the course will acquire basic knowledge in the following areas:
- knowledge to increase efficiencies in bioprocess technologies
- knowledge for controlling and processing wastewater treatments
- knowledge in the field of biocorrosion processes
- ability to implement knowledge on the field of material testing and its standardisation
- integration of these skills in problem solving in the context of the doctoral
dissertation.
