As a PhD student of Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies at Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School, I carried out one year Erasmus+ training at Max-Planck-Institute für Eisenforschung Gmbh (MPIE) in Düsseldorf in Germany. As part of its young and international team, I had the opportunity to broaden my knowledge on the topic of advanced electron microscopy techniques such as scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. These techniques are essential for the investigation of sample microstructure, morphology, particle size and defects. During my stay I continued my research on tungsten and tungsten based materials for nuclear fusion applications. A one-year stay at MPIE was an amazing opportunity that helped me to broaden my academic and personal experience. Furthermore, being able to share my knowledge with other PhD students and engage myself in an international group work with renowned experts, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students changed my perspective towards academic education and my future career. I was able to gain invaluable experience and I would recommend the mobility to everyone interested to experienced diversity.
