New European doctoral network “Magnetic Soft Matter for Robotics” (MAESTRI), with the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School as associated partner, started in March 2024. This doctoral network responds to the existing need to train a new generation of experts in the emerging subfield of soft robotics, which is based on the control of material properties through a magnetic field - magnetic soft robotics. The consortium consists of seven academic and two industrial partners in five countries, who come from the fields of biology, materials science, physics and robotics. In this project, the Department for Materials Synthesis from Jožef Stefan Institute (with Prof. Darko Makovec as a principal investigator and Prof. Darja Lisjak as a mentor) is responsible for synthesis of the magneto-responsive materials. The Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School will provide educational support for future experts in the soft-robotics field.
