A postdoctoral position in Analytical Chemistry/Environmental
Chemistry is open in the Institute of Chemistry from the University of
Campinas (UNICAMP), in collaboration with the Brazilian Synchrotron
Light Laboratory (Campinas, Brazil).
Duration: 1 year
Starting date: 1 February 2021 or later
Deadline for application: November 30th 2020
The
proposal aims to elucidate the functioning of two cyanobacteria in
relation to arsenic speciation, bioaccumulation and biotransformation in
alkaline-saline lagoons in the Pantanal (Brazil) that present high
concentrations of As (up to 3 mg / L), and thus to better understand the
role of these microorganisms in the biogeochemical cycle of As in this
ecosystem. To achieve this goal, two cyanobacteria (Arthrospira sp. And
Anabaenopsis sp.) already isolated will be grown in medium enriched with
As (III) / As (V). The different types of samples (culture medium and
cells) will be analyzed using a combination of different analytical
techniques: HPLC-UV -HG-AFS, LC-Electrospray-MS / MS and synchrotron
radiation produced by a fourth generation source. Synchrotron radiation
analysis will be carried out on the CARNAÚBA beamline (Coherent X-rAy
NAnoprobe BeAmline) in the new synchrotron light source at the National
Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), Sirius. The cultivation of
cyanobacteria will be carried out at the Cellular and Molecular Biology
Laboratory of CENA / USP.
Required Skills: The candidate must have:
1)
Experience in analysis by synchrotron radiation (XRF, XAS), 2)
Experience in Analytical Chemistry in particular with techniques such as
HPLC-HG-AFS, HPLC-MS/MS, LC-Electrospray-MS/MS, 3) practical knowledge
in sample preparation. The integration of the postdoctoral fellowwith
the project researchers is also desirable. The candidate should have
concluded a doctorate less than seven years before the beginning of the
PD fellowship.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any
nationalities. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral
fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount
of R$ 7,373.10 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to
15% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent in items
directly related to the research activity.
Contact: Interested applicants should submit by email to Prof. Anne Helene Fostier (anne@unicamp.br) a Motivation Letter; 2 reference letters; a short CV (1-2 pages) emphasizing the skills required in the project; summary of the PhD thesis.
