IPS invites you to the Defence of the Doctoral Dissertation by David Jure Jovan titled: A decision support system for the design of a green hydrogen production system in a hydropower plant. The defence will take place on Monday, 20 May 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at the IPS Lecture Room, Jamova 39, 1000 Ljubljana.

Short summary:

The dissertation analyses the technical and economic aspects of integrating a hydrogen system into the operation of a hydropower plant. The necessary equipment for hydrogen systems is still expensive, which leads to the problem of the profitability of cogeneration of electricity and green hydrogen in an individual hydropower plant. Profitability can be improved by optimal dimensioning of the hydrogen system components, by taking into account the expected hydrogen demand and by respecting predefined timetable for electricity supply. A key factor is also an optimal design of hydrogen system control. The work presents the design of a decision support system based on the developed model of the hydropower plant and the model of the hydrogen system. The possibilities for the production of hydrogen from excess water inflows are estimated and the volume of hydrogen produced and the corresponding profit from hydrogen production are evaluated. The simulations carried out on the case-study hydropower plant show that the investment in a hydrogen system is already economically justified in certain cases.
