Objavljeno: 18. sep. 2019

In the framework of the Erasmus+ “Monitoring visit” Prof. Roberta Guerra visited the Jožef Stefan International Postgraduate School during the period September 10-12, 2019. Roberta Guerra is a professor at Interdepartmental Research Center for Environmental Sciences and at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at Bologna University. While here Prof. Guerra gave a lecture concerning the marine environment entitled “Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) trends in the Western Adriatic Sea under a changing climate” on September 11th 2019 at 13:00 in the O-2 lecture room at the Reactor Centre. The lecture summarized the distribution and accumulation of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in the modern continental shelf of the Western Adriatic Sea. Historical trends of POPs deposition in the Po River prodelta indicated the influence of major flood events occurring in the mid-1950s and early 2000s. Prof. Guerra also explained how cascading events in the North Adriatic Dense Water (NAdDW) that form over the northern Adriatic shelf during cold months and spread southward along the western Italian coast play a vital role in the transport and deposition of POPs in the deep areas of the SWAM. The constructive discussion that followed the talk produced new research ideas and possible future collaboration throughout Erasmus exchange.
